MEET SARAH
I’m running to serve as Jefferson County Attorney because I’ve proudly served for more than 16 years as Assistant County Attorney, and this office is too important for on-the-job training.
I’ve served as a criminal prosecutor, a civil rights lawyer for victims of discrimination, an advisor to Metro Council, and now as Director of the Civil Division. As counsel for the Human Relations Commission, I’ve successfully advocated for victims of sexual harassment and discrimination.
I’m also running because I believe we must always stand up for our community—no matter the odds or the opponent.
That’s why I proudly defended Louisville’s attempt to raise the minimum wage all the way to the Kentucky Supreme Court, even though I knew the odds were against us. That’s why I spent time in Washington defending women’s rights, including the right to make their own health care decisions.
I know the important difference this office makes in the community, and I hope to continue serving the people of Jefferson County as your next County Attorney.

“ Sarah was one of the very first hires I made when I was appointed County Attorney. She is among a select number of lawyers who have prosecuted criminal cases, advised all levels of government, and argued before the Kentucky Supreme Court. The County Attorney’s Office requires a specific skill set and our community understandably has high expectations of professionalism and hard work that I know Sarah can meet. That is why she has my full support to lead this office into the future. ”
Former National
Bar Association President
Lonita Baker
“I have known Sarah for years, as a colleague, a supervisor, and a friend. She is a dedicated, hardworking public servant with the ability to get things done. In the times that Sarah and I represent clients on the opposite side of cases, she is always fair, transparent, and a strong advocate in working towards the best interests of the entire city. Sarah Martin is exactly the leader we need representing our community as the Jefferson County Attorney.”
Law Clerk & Law Student
Jackson Roney
“ Sarah hired me as an intern when I was in college. When I was struggling to decide where to attend law school, Sarah generously helped me visit these law schools so I could pick the school right for me. Her act of kindness quite literally changed my future and unlocked the next chapter in my life. Sarah continues to be my inspiration and mentor.”
Former Congressman
John Yarmuth
“Sarah served as my Treasurer for 14 years, handling the fundraising and financial reporting during my time as Louisville’s Congressman. Sarah is smart, dependable, and indefatigable. Louisville will be lucky to have such a dedicated public servant.”
